When an actor with a resume that includes General Hospital, Mistresses, and Chicago Med posts on Instagram that he just auditioned for a CBS show… and stops in front of a The Young and the Restless (YR) poster, fans can’t help but start speculating.
Especially when, at the same time, Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) receives evidence that her presumed dead husband, Adam, might still be alive.
So is Jason Gerhardt set to be YR’s new Adam?
He’s the right age, and certainly hot enough. (Soaps never let a little thing like being shot and burned alive keep one from achieving full hotness. The good may die young, but the pretty live forever… if in a variety of forms.)
He can play a daytime bad guy, as Gerhardt proved on GH. Cooper Barrett debuted as Gunman Number Three, who took Maxie (Kirsten Storms) hostage in a vault. They bonded and she helped him escape.
He tried to go straight, but was blackmailed by Sonny (Maurice Benard) to feed him inside info about the PCPD (for noble mob reasons, of course).
Coop was eventually suspected of being a serial killer, though he proved himself innocent… when the killer got him, too.
With a resume like that, Gerhardt should have no trouble stepping into Adam’s shoes. A resentful son turned con-artist turned jail-bird (who accidentally killed a little girl but is really, really sorry for it) with a couple of deaths and resurrections under his belt, seems right up the actor’s alley.
But, is there room for him in Genoa City? Chelsea has moved on to Nick (Joshua Morrow), the man who is unwittingly raising Adam’s son. And Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson) has flown the coop.
Is it worth it for Adam to return to a woman who’s forsaken him, an attempted murderer who’s escaped justice–and a father who’s betrayed him on both counts?
