The name Kyle Abbott, the son of Jack Abbott and the late Diane Jenkins, has popped up on The Young and the Restless (YR) lately. In fact, he cast the deciding vote kicking Jack out of the CEO slot at Jabot.

Savvy soap fans know that once a character is mentioned, there’s a solid chance he or she will be back onscreen soon. If that happens with Kyle, who should play the Abbott heir? Soap Hub has some casting ideas!

Heir Apparent
The most obvious choice for the show would be to reach out to Lachlan Buchanan, who played the part most recently. He resembles TV dad, Peter Bergman, more than any other actor who’s played the part. Buchanan has continued to work since exiting Genoa City, but he’s not a series regular anywhere. He could reclaim the role.

A Tale Of Two Bens
Rob Wilson and Justin Gaston have something more in common than having played the part of Ben on Days of Our Lives. Both actors could easily step into the part of Kyle. They each have ties already to CBS and/or Y&R.

Wilson was the first male model on The Price Is Right. Gaston is wed to Melissa Ordway (Abby), so the couple could commute to the studio if he landed the role.

Doubting Thomas
It’s probably too early for Pierson Fodé (ex-Thomas, The Bold and the Beautiful) to return to daytime. (He exited B&B to pursue other avenues earlier this year.) But if the role were non-contract, he might be persuaded to take on the part of Summer’s former beau.

Commitment To Kyle
Let’s hope whoever the show casts as Kyle that this time there’s a commitment to him. The three actors to have played the part as a young adult — Blake Hood, Hartley Sawyer, and Buchanan — each lasted a year or less in the contract role.

All three of these actors were terrific in the part, but none really had a chance to show what they could do. Kyle is tied to one of the show’s most prominent families, and given the right story, he could take his rightful place as a permanent fixture in Genoa City.

The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for airtimes.
