Yes, we know, The Young and the Restless isn’t airing new episodes currently. That’s why we haven’t seen Devon and Elena on our screens since the spring. But let’s get real: We barely saw them before that, either.
The Young and the Restless Commentary
It took Devon (Bryton James) the soap opera equivalent of forever to get over Hilary (Mishael Morgan), the kindest, most generous, most wonderful, most loving woman who ever lived.
But he finally did. He moved onto Elena (Brytni Sarpy), though, frankly, we have no idea why, since the bulk of their scenes seemed to consist of discussing her uncle – his half-sister’s father’s – health. Not exactly sexy. But fans went with it because you wanted to see where this could go.
The Usual Suspects
Oh, sure, there were the expected stumbling blocks, like Elena blowing a gasket when Devon decided to pay off her medical school loans – without asking her. But that got resolved super-quickly.
And then there was the Hilary lookalike who wanted to take away Devon’s money. Which he then gave away himself. Which he then decided he wanted back. Which he then got back. All while Elena stood in the background, cheering him on.
Devon and Elena: Where Do We Go From Here?
Their latest story like thing is Elena and Nate (Sean Dominic) starting a free medical clinic that Devon will fund. Yay! Noble! They helped out a runaway kid. Yay! Noble! Also, kind of boring.
The Young and the Restless is a soap, right? Soaps are supposed to be all about big emotions, sweeping drama, hot sex, and heartbreak. Have we seen any of that yet? We do not believe we have seen any of that yet. Why not?
Where’s the triangle with Hilary lookalike Amanda? Or Nate, with whom Elena can talk about medical stuff. Where is the real, not manufactured conflict? Where is the angst? Where is the fighting and the hot making up?
Where is what anyone would call a story? The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
