It was a shock for fans when Donny Boaz announced on Sunday that his last episode of The Young and the Restless would be airing (this past) Monday. As of right now, Abby hasn’t discovered that her husband is missing (if indeed he is) rather than simply having a drink by himself and taking the time to process the news of his lazy swimmers. We know he will return someday…but who will be playing him?

The Young and the Restless — Take A Chance

While there is an outside ‘chance’ that Boaz could be brought back when the character is seen again, the probability isn’t that high — so Soap Hub decided to play amateur casting director to help the CBS soap figure out who the next actor (or perhaps a past one) could help fill the void.

Mine The Past

The actor who played the role previously, John Driscoll, joined the U.S. Army and the National Guard after leaving the role but told Soap Hub that while he couldn’t do a contract role, he’d be open to a YR return if it was in a recurring capacity and the timing was right. Fans would certainly welcome his return.

Another actor who has taken on the role is Melissa Ordway’s (Abby) husband, Justin Gaston — who filled in for Boaz when he contracted COVID and had to quarantine for a couple of weeks. Considering the pandemic is still wreaking havoc, having her husband in the role could be quite convenient for the newlywed couple. Bonus: You don’t have to reshoot the wedding for flashbacks!

New Blood

There are also a host of well known former soap stars who could step into the role of Nina’s (Tricia Cast) only child and become NuChance. Former General Hospital stars Robert Palmer Watkins (ex-Dillon) and Mark Lawson (ex-Dustin) are available as is former Days of our Lives star Casey Moss (ex-JJ). Any one of them could certainly take on the challenge.

No matter which direction the show decides to go, chances are fans will be willing to welcome the character back with open arms. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
