Fans of The Young and the Restless have seen Greg Rikaart play his tortured character Kevin gleefully happy over getting revenge, beaten down, remorseful, and, at times, content. Recently, viewers got to see Kevin showing a new color — he was stoically grim as he carefully surmised what was going on around him so that he can protect his family. Kevin may not have all the answers he wants but Soap Hub is bestowing upon Rikaart Performer of the Week for YR honors.

Kevin’s always known that his wife Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson) and Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) have been super-tight. So, his guard was up now that Chelsea’s role in Rey’s (Jordi Vilasuso) poisoning has come to light. Kevin’s no stranger to deception so, it’s understandable that he suspected that Chelsea might be faking her mental illness in order to keep out of jail.
First, Kevin subtly interrogated Chloe, carefully questioning her as she talked about Chelsea being where she is. Knowing he needed more information, Kevin went straight to the source by visiting Chelsea in her room at the facility where she’s currently residing.
Kevin cares about Chelsea but it was clear that he was there to see her in order to protect his family. “You need help,” stated Kevin, clarifying in the room alone with Chelsea, “I’m just wondering how much help you really need.”

Perhaps Chelsea herself doesn’t know how much of her condition is a ruse and how much is a genuine break from reality. Kevin certainly couldn’t tell so, he continued to probe his wife’s pal with questions. When Chelsea said that Chloe was her pal, Kevin firmly stated, “Please don’t forget that. Because I’m worried about her.”
Kevin knows that if Chloe were to be revealed as Chelsea’s conspirator she could be facing legal jeopardy and he’s not about to let that happen. At one point, Rikaart made the choice for Kevin to lean in and make it clear to Chelsea in no uncertain terms the ultimate reason for his visit.
“If this is a ruse if you’re faking a breakdown, and any of this comes back to hurt Chloe, I will hold you responsible,” Kevin admonished. Chelsea assured Kevin that Chloe had no role in any of her schemes. But that wasn’t enough for Kevin as he’s not truly clear on where Chelsea’s coming from or how stable she is.
Frustrated that he’d failed to fully reach her, Kevin left Chelsea’s room unhappy that his goal wasn’t achieved but it’s clear that he’s determined to make sure his wife and family remain safe. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
