Who Matt and Phyllis Should Set Up Other Than Sharon on Young and Restless

Phyllis thinks Matt can win over Victor by saving Sharon, but there’s one rather obvious problem with her brilliant plan. If she really wants to manufacture Matt’s redemption, there are much easier Newmans to target.

On the September 3 episode of The Young and the Restless, Phyllis had a brilliant idea to redeem Matt in the eyes of Genoa City. Remember how, together, they saved Nick’s life? Well, they should totes do it again. Because if the first time didn’t get the job done, the second one definitely will. Phyllis has the perfect candidate for their scam—Sharon. We have a better idea.

Key Takeaways

  • Matt needs to save another Newman.
  • Sharon isn’t surrounded by Newman security.
  • These three are better candidates.

Phyllis Thinks Matt Can Save His Reputation by Saving a Newman

When Nick (Joshua Morrow) overdosed, Victor (Eric Braeden), yelling at him not to die, failed to get the job done. It required Matt (Roger Howarth) and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) to do CPR to make that happen. Victor gave Phyllis a company as a thank-you. But he’s still mad that Matt refused to keep working for him like the indentured slave Victor demands he be.

So Phyllis had a brilliant idea! Matt should save another Newman! THEN Victor will forgive him! Phyllis suggested Sharon (Sharon Case), since the Newmans, Victor actually cares about, Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), and Victoria (Amelia Heinle), are under too much security for them to get to either woman. But there are better options.

Sharon May Be the Worst Pick for This Scheme

Matt and Sharon have too much history. She might not let him close enough to her to help, and then there goes that foolproof plan.

But you know who doesn’t know Matt at all? Christian? He’s been kept away from all Newman business. Yet he is still a Newman. Nick (Joshua Morrow) says his son is old enough to drive now. Surely, there are opportunities for sabotage there!

Summer and Harrison Could Give Twice the Redemption

But the easiest person for Phyllis to set up would be Phyllis’ own daughter, Summer (Allison Lanier). She is the Newman most likely to be manipulated by Phyllis—even if they’re not speaking at the moment.

Throw in Harrison (Redding Munsell), and Matt saving them both will earn the Abbotts eternal gratitude, as well. How’s that for a more brilliant plan?
