Claire and Audra took the gloves off on the May 7 episode of The Young and the Restless, and we couldn’t be more thrilled. This is what we watch our soaps for!
Key Takeaways
- Claire hates Audra.
- Audra hates Claire.
- We love it.
Claire and Audra Turn Old Resentments Into a Personal Showdown
Audra (Zuleyka Silver) was working at the coffee house (there are only two places to go in Genoa City, it seems) when Claire (Hayley Erin) stopped by. Audra called Claire out on being the ultimate nepo baby. Claire called Audra out for taking money from Victor (Eric Braeden) to break up Claire and Kyle (Michael Mealor).
Audra called Claire out for not really ever loving Kyle. Claire called Audra out for sniffing around Noah (Lucas Adams) again. And then they both debated who was more successful professionally, Claire, who was handed all her jobs by either Victor or Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), or Audra, who is riding Sally’s (Courtney Hope) coattails with a less-than-legally-acquired company.
Claire and Audra’s Rivalry Is About Far More Than the Men Around Them
We loved three things about the snarky exchange. 1) The dialogue really crackled, especially when each pretended not to be listening to the other. 2) While the subtext was about the men in their lives, it was clear these women cared as much about their careers as they did about either Kyle, Noah, or Holden (Nathan Owens). And 3) While the barbs got heavy, nobody even considered throwing hands. Catfights do nothing but demean the people forced into them, and it was nice to see Audra and Claire use their words like well-raised kindergarten students.
Y&R May Have Finally Found Claire’s Sharpest Opponent
If the writers are smart, they’ll realize that Audra and Claire’s rivalry has the potential to hit Kay (Jeanne Cooper) and Jill (Jess Walton) levels. We’re here to watch them go after each other for years. It humanizes Audra, gives Claire back the edge she definitely had when scheming with Aunt Jordan (Colleen Zenk). More, please!
