Thursday was the last we’ve seen of The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful for the foreseeable future.

CBS Soaps Go For The Classics

Fans who’ve wanted soaps to have their own “classics” channel are going to get their wish — sort of. Due to the coronavirus, YR and BB are on production hiatuses. Now that the supply of original episodes has been exhausted, both serials are going to show classic episodes in the shows’ regular timeslots.

Starting Friday, April 24, fans will go down memory lane with the two CBS serials. First up, The Young and the Restless will rebroadcast Chris (Lauralee Bell) and Paul’s (Doug Davidson) 1996 honeymoon in Nevis where they’re spotted by Chris’ longtime nemesis Phyllis (Michelle Stafford). Meanwhile, BB will show an episode shot on location in Monte Carlo featuring Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (Steffy), Wyatt (Darin Brooks), and others.

“This move is extremely smart on CBS’ part,” says daytime talent manager. Michael Bruno (I Want To Be A Soap Star, SOAPnet). “You want to hold onto the audience and this will help do that. You don’t want to replace the shows with an extra hour of The Price is Right reruns or more Judge Judy. You want to keep both YR and BB in the lives of the viewers.

“This way, people can tune in and remember these classic episodes. The fans who saw them first time will love seeing them again. And newer viewers will gain insights. These re-broadcasts are going to deepen the sense of the storytelling being done in the present.”

Viewers can expect to see additional CBS soaps classic episodes in the coming weeks. As soon as those episode descriptions are available, Soap Hub will bring you the details. Both YR and BB were created by the late William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell. The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless air weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
