Kim Matula rose to fame as Hope on The Bold and the Beautiful, a role she played from 2010 to 2014. After her departure, the actress has landed many TV and film gigs. Her latest movie role has her playing a famous comedienne.
Curtin Time
Matula’s current film Saturday Night has her starring alongside some big names including, Willem Dafoe and J.K. Simmons. The movie follows the events leading up to the 1975 premiere of Saturday Night Live.
In the film, Matula plays Jane Curtin, one of Saturday Night Live‘s original cast members. Curtin is one of Hollywood’s funniest actresses and had an illustrious career after SNL, which included the show 3rd Rock from the Sun.
Playing an iconic funny lady is a big opportunity for Matula. In an interview posted on the film’s Instagram page, the star opened up about her role.
“I did no research,” she joked. “I did a little bit of research,” she said while pinching her fingers. “But I had been pretty familiar with Jane Curtin already because SNL was such a big part of my household growing up.”
Matula wasn’t nervous at all when it came to recreating Curtin’s skits. “And I had seen Jane Curtin’s sketch, so I knew immediately like, ‘I know how Jane delivers this.” And I felt like, so excited to bring that out.”
As for capturing Jane’s personality, Matula says that there are differences between Curtin and the SNL cast.
“Jane is the straight man, and she knows it,” Matula explains. “You can’t have a clown without a straight man. Someone has to be there to set up those moments, and if it wasn’t for her, then those moments wouldn’t exist.”
Fans can see Matula’s transformation as Jane Curtin when Saturday Night hits theaters on Oct. 11, 2024.
