Karla Mosley made daytime history when she played a transgender woman on The Bold and the Beautiful. The actress first joined the show seven years ago. Now, she’s closing that door in her life — although, as soap fans know, doors are often left ajar.

Karla Mosley Says Goodbye To Maya

“Celebrating the incredible journey of #MayaAvant!” Mosley proudly posted on her Instagram account. “And bidding a fond farewell to her with gratitude to all of YOU for watching. More to come from me – stay tuned to my IG! ♥️.”

Mosley first came to the attention of CBS Daytime fans when she debuted on Guiding Light back in 2008 as Christina. After that soap ended, she joined BB as Maya Avant in 2013. Eventually, Maya’s sister Nicole (Reign Edwards) was added to the storytelling canvas. There was tension between the two — but viewers weren’t sure why it existed.

Was BB about to do a “you’re not my sister, you’re my mother!” story twist? The age difference, or lack thereof, between the two women didn’t seem to support that. Then, one day, Nicole informed Maya that she wasn’t her sister — the reality is Maya (born Myron) was her brother!

BB went on to tell a story about Maya’s journey, how, yes, she was born a man, but always identified as a female. In time, she went through medical procedures and became Maya. She’d fallen for Rick (Jacob Young), but he was thrown upon learning the truth about Maya’s origins. Soon, Rick realized that he loved Maya and that’s all that mattered. The couple got married. #LoveWins.

“I miss you too!” posted Mosley supporter Rita Jennings. “You’re a gifted and beautiful actress. The role you played as Maya broke down barriers on daytime.tv.❤️.”

The Bold and the Beautiful won the GLAAD Award for Daily Drama in 2016, 2017, and 2018. Maya and Rick went on to have other conflicts. They wanted a child, so Nicole acted as a surrogate. She started to have second thoughts about giving up her child but Zende (then-Rome Flynn) encouraged her to move forward with her life with him and let Maya and Rick continue to raise little Lizzie.

Later, Maya and Rick shifted to the backburner. Mosley has been on recurring status ever since, and now, she’s choosing to officially announce that she is exiting the soap. Of course, nothing is forever. It’s always possible we’ll see Mosley and Maya back on screen someday.

What’s next for the actress? She has a role in the short film He Was Asking for It which will be a part of the Marina Del Rey Film Festival on October 9 through 15.
