Soap operas bring amazing (and sometimes not-so-amazing) storylines roughly five days a week all year long. Sometimes they present incredibly beautiful moments while at other times they rip out fans’ hearts with gut-wrenching sadness.
For decades, today’s sudsers have thrilled fans with some absolutely memorable moments! Here are four of the most memorable from throughout the years.
A Literal New Face
In 1984, Jeanne Cooper, who portrayed Katherine Chancellor on The Young and the Restless (YR) got a facelift. The actress allowed the show to use footage of her procedure as part of the storyline.
Later, when the bandages came off, audiences saw and heard exactly what Cooper heard. Many felt that the transparency of the storyline empowered others who considered plastic surgery. The openness certainly provided an unforgettable moment for daytime.
Possession
The twisted Marlena (Deidre Hall) possessed storyline on Days Of Our Lives (DOOL) remains among daytime’s most remembered for many fans. Perhaps it was her shocking glowing eyes and levitation or the otherworldly voice that makes this story so memorable.
Ultimately, John (Drake Hogestyn), who was a priest at the time, performed an emergency exorcism relieving Marlena from the evil forces within her.

To Save A Life
In 2008, Storm (William deVry) made the heartbreaking decision to kill himself so that he could save Katie’s (Heather Tom) life.
He accidentally shot her, leaving her in critical condition, and after writing a suicide note, he tragically took his own life. His terrible sacrifice left Katie great heartache and her mother’s refusal to return for the funeral made things that much worse.
The Wedding To End All Weddings
Luke (Anthony Geary) and Laura’s (Genie Francis) November 17, 1981 wedding on General Hospital (GH) set a daytime record of 30 million viewers that remains to this day. As the original soap supercouple, this wedding remains hard to beat, and is truly among the greatest soap moments of all time!
