The great thing about soaps is that since they take place five days a week, 52 weeks a year, and some characters are on for decades – an incredible amount of growth can happen.
Some come on as a bad guy and after several years, they are “reformed” and realize that they are capable of doing good things.
Some start out good and after all that happens, they are sick of being doormats and develop a mean streak. Here are some who have changed.
Steve “Patch” Johnson
Steve (Stephen Nichols) was a thug when he first appeared on Days of Our Lives (DOOL), kidnapping poor John Black for money. He was on Victor Kiriakis’s payroll, doing nefarious things for him, but after he met Kayla, Steve fell in love and turned into the hero he is now.
Some may think that Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) on The Young and the Restless (YR) hasn’t changed, but considering her beginnings – drugging rock star Danny so she could claim they had sex and he fathered her child to trying to off Christine and Paul. She still gets jealous, but Vicky can cross a street safely.
When Carly (Laura Wright) blew into General Hospital (GH), she was aiming right for her mother Bobbie, who didn’t know who she was at the time. She was determined to destroy her life anddestroyed others too until Carly finally grew up and found real love.
Brooke Logan Spencer
Poor Caroline Spencer thought Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) was her friend on The Bold and the Beautiful (BB), but what she didn’t realize was the lengths her “pal” would go to in order to stop her wedding to Ridge. But, schemer Brooke turned her life around.
