A Martinez has appeared on a quite a few of your favorite soaps over the last three decades, and now he has even more reason to celebrate!
Martinez was born on September 27, 1948 in Glendale, California as Adolfo Martinez III, which means he is turning 70 years old today!
His family referred to him as “A” or “Little A” when he was young to differentiate him from his father and grandfather, who were also named Adolfo. The nickname stuck.
A native Californian of blended heritage (Mexican and Apache on his father’s side, Piegan Blackfeet and Northern European on his mother’s), he has portrayed Native Americans in several of his early western films… including The Cowboys with the legendary John Wayne.
But before that, he made his singing debut at age 12, when he won a talent show at the Hollywood Bowl. He went on to have a rock-and-roll band in high school and also ran track. He was so athletic, he went on to play five seasons on a semi-pro baseball team.
Luckily primetime shows like The Cowboys, L.A. Law, Cassie & Co., Whiz Kids, and Profiler.
But it was his role as Cruz Castillo on Santa Barbara that won him the hearts of soap fans as well as a Daytime Emmy award for Outstanding Lead Actor.
He also portrayed Roy DiLucca on General Hospital and Ray Montez on One Life to Live. Later, he was Dr. Ramon Montgomery on The Bold and the Beautiful before landing as Eduardo on Days of Our Lives.
Since leaving DAYS, he has been in the long-running Longmire and also plays Sheriff Mayo on Queen of the South. He also played double duty, shooting both Longmire and DAYS during the same time period.
On the personal front, Martinez has been married to wife, Leslie, since 1982. The couple has three children together — daughters Devon Makena, Ren Farren, and son Dakota Lee.
