Soap Opera Ratings Race: BAD News For All Soaps

The soap opera ratings race for the week ending March 3 show all four daytime dramas in a near free fall. As the drama has heated up in real life, the drama in reel life seems to be taking a hit.

The Young and the Restless
While The Young and the Restless retained its number one perch as per usual, it lost viewers from both the week and year before. Y&R garnered 4,429,000 viewers, down 79,000 from the previous week and 268,000 from the previous year. The soap also lost viewers from the week and year before in all three female demographics.

The Bold and the Beautiful
Sister soap The Bold and the Beautiful remained in second place and fared slightly better as it approaches its 30th anniversary. It pulled in 3,621,000 viewers on average overall, down 101,000 from the week before, but up 99,000 from the year before. B&B lost viewers in all demos except for women 25-54, where it was up 15,000 from last year.

General Hospital
General Hospital ranked third as usual and garnered 2,606,000 viewers on average overall, down 74,000 from the week before and a whopping 332,000 from the year before. The only demo in which it gained viewers was women 18-34, where it was up 4,000 from the previous week.

Days of Our Lives
Days of Our Lives remained number four of four soaps, pulling in 2,134,000 viewers overall, down 6,000 viewers from the week before and 205,000 from the year before. For women 18-49 and 18-34 it was up 7,000 and 3,000 respectively from the previous week.
