As The Ratings Plummet: Fans Share If They Fear Cancellation

Soap opera ratings have been in free-fall for a while now, due in no small part to the real life drama that is happening each day in D.C. and often interrupting our shows.

Each new week’s ratings report has been showing yet another all time low mark in overall ratings or demographics or sometimes even both. It’s hard to believe that networks will allow this to go on indefinitely.

Keep in mind, there used to be many more soap operas on the air and now we only have four. Soap Hub wondered if you worry that your favorite soap opera might get cancelled?

Uncertain Future
Apparently 82% of you said that yes — you do fear that you will lose your favorite soap. You’ve seen the writing on the wall as casts have been shrinking, veterans have been tossed aside and new (inexpensive) talent has been added.

You’re still not over The Young and the Restless (YR) letting Greg Rikaart (Kevin) go.

What do you think? Post a comment!

While you certainly don’t want this to happen because you have no idea what you’d do without your daily Jason (Billy Miller) and Sam (Kelly Monaco) fix on General Hospital (GH), you’ve seen other favorites disappear and you can’t help but be worried.

Rose-Colored Glasses
Enough is enough say 18% of you who refuse to believe all the doomsday talk. There’s no way the networks would get rid of any more shows. After all, Days of Our Lives (DOOL) recently got another year pickup – thankfully – since you need Chad (Billy Flynn) and Abigail (Marci Miller) to reunite now!

And look at the success of shows like The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) overseas! It makes a lot of money so you believe their future is bright – no storm clouds ahead in your book!
