The 46th Annual Daytime Emmys are coming! The awards gala will take place on Sunday, May 5 at 8 p.m. and can be seen on various social media and streaming platforms!

Soap Hub chatted with David Michaels, Daytime Emmy Awards Exec Producer and Sr. Vice-President, NATAS, to get a preview of the show set to honor the best and brightest in soaps, web dramas, game shows, talk shows, and more!

Soap Hub: Sheryl Underwood (The Talk) and Mario Lopez (Extra!) are returning as hosts. What do they bring to the show?
David Michaels: We are pleased and proud to once again have the wit and talent of Mario and Sheryl! They are the stars of two very popular daytime shows — both Daytime Emmy winners — they have a great chemistry and are consummate professionals. They are a dream to work with and they bring great joy to the show- – as well as getting the host duties done expertly.

Will we see clips of the acting nominees as they’re introduced?
Absolutely — great packages with material taken from their nomination reels.

Are there any special anniversary tributes this year?
We will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of Extra, the 40th anniversary of CBS Sunday Morning — the 50th Anniversary of Sesame Street — and are doing a special tribute to Kathie Lee [Gifford] for all of her years in Daytime.(Yes — she will be there — and is also a nominee).

What do you think? Post a comment!

Often at the Oscars, last year’s Best Actor and Best Actress will announce winners of the current year’s Best Actress and Best Actor. The Daytime Emmys have done that, too. Will we see that this year?
We have done that sometimes in the past but it is not really one of our traditions. We will not be doing that this year.

Are there plans for an In Memoriam to honor those daytime has lost over the last year?
Yes — there is unfortunately a very long list this year. We will be doing a beautiful segment with a musical performance by Roslyn Kind.

Any musical acts being planned?
We have a special opening number in addition to Roslyn’s performance.

Is Judge Judy, the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, coming? (“Umm is not an answer!”)
Of course, Judge Judy is coming! She is very pleased and excited about receiving this award. She’s bringing 30 people from her staff and crew as well as some family! And we have a very special surprise presenter giving her the award.

The Daytime Emmy Awards will be presented on Sunday, May 5 at 8 p.m. ET. You can view them by going to: Facebook: facebook.com/DaytimeEmmyAwards; Twitter: @DaytimeEmmys; YouTube: youtube.com/TheEmmys or www.KNEKT.tv
