The first wave of 2026 Daytime Emmy nominations has arrived, and soap operas are already making a strong showing. Before the full list of nominees is unveiled, the Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series category has been revealed, putting five familiar leading men in the running. While every nomination is well deserved, the lineup also says something bigger about where daytime drama is right now.

Key Takeaways

  • The first 2026 Daytime Emmy nominations have been announced.
  • Eric Braeden, Steve Burton, Scott Clifton, Thorsten Kaye, and Christian Jules Le Blanc are nominated for Outstanding Lead Performer.
  • The full list of Daytime Emmy nominees will be revealed on Tuesday, July 14.

A Celebration of Daytime’s Biggest Leading Men

The Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series category is stacked with some of the genre’s most recognizable stars. This year’s nominees are Eric Braeden (The Young and the Restless), Steve Burton (General Hospital), Scott Clifton (The Bold and the Beautiful), Thorsten Kaye (The Bold and the Beautiful), and Christian Jules Le Blanc (The Young and the Restless).

What’s striking isn’t just the talent on the ballot. It’s how evenly the nominations are spread across three of daytime’s biggest soaps. Y&R and B&B each earned two nominations, while GH claimed one. That reflects the strength of the performances viewers have been watching over the past year, from emotional family dramas to high-stakes corporate battles and life-or-death storylines.

A Very Different Race Than Last Year

This year’s field looks nothing like last year’s.

The 2025 Outstanding Lead Performer race included Days of our Lives stars Paul Telfer, Eric Martsolf, and Greg Rikaart, alongside Y&R’s Peter Bergman and GH’s Dominic Zamprogna. Telfer ultimately took home the trophy, but none of last year’s nominees returned to the category this time.

That complete shake-up creates one of the most unpredictable acting races in recent memory. With multiple previous Emmy winners competing alongside performers who have delivered standout work over the past year, there’s no obvious frontrunner.

More Nominations Are Still to Come

Monday’s announcement is only the beginning. The remaining Daytime Emmy nominations will be announced later Monday evening and on Tuesday, July 14, revealing which soaps, actors, actresses, writers, and behind-the-scenes teams will join this year’s race.

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards are scheduled for Oct. 30, though details about the ceremony are still being finalized, including the venue, broadcast partner, host, and this year’s Lifetime Achievement honoree.

For soap fans, though, the first nominations have already accomplished something important. They’ve reminded viewers just how much powerhouse talent continues to define daytime television.
