The perk of being a recurring player on a daytime drama is that it affords soap stars the opportunity to moonlight in a variety of other mediums — be it play, feature (or short) film, or primetime program.
All of these actresses portray a character (on a recurring basis) on one of the four remaining soaps – The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of our Lives, General Hospital, and The Young and the Restless – and all of them have appeared in nighttime series. But only one has played a First Lady on the action-packed thriller 24.
Who can that actress be? Is it Anna Maria Horsford (Vivienne Avant, BB), Patrika Darbo (Nancy Wesley, DAYS; Shirley Spectra, BB), Kathleen Gati (Liesl Obrecht, GH), or Kate Linder (Esther Valentine, YR)?
Anna Maria Horsford
Horsford has certainly racked up the primetime credits since her acting career began in 1967. But even though she did impersonate Laura Livingston, one of the first female members of the military police, in an episode of the game show To Tell the Truth, she has never played a First Lady.
She’s played two of the most feisty, ill-tempered, and scheming characters on soaps, and she’s guest-starred on series such as Seinfeld and Dexter, but Darbo never did appear in an episode of 24.
Sure of these soap stars, she’s appeared in episodes of Archie Bunker’s Place and Bay City Blues. And yes, she has acted in a number of short films and features (like Mother’s Day, Miss Meadows, and Hysteria). But Linder, who has played the (almost) always reliable Chancellor maid since 1982, isn’t the actress in question.
If you guessed that Gati, who has been alternately chilling and tickling GH fans (on and off) since 2012, might be the answer to our question, then you were right on the money!
Between 2006 and 2007, she appeared in six episodes (though one went uncredited), of 24 playing Anya Suvarov, the wife of Russian President Yuri Suvarov, which made her the First Lady of the Russian Federation.
