General Hospital (GH) star Hudson West is the youngest actor nominated for a Daytime Emmy this year and can’t believe his luck to be in the running with the big boys.
Soap Hub caught up with the talented young man at a nominee reception this week. Check out the video above to hear his thoughts on this chance-of-a-lifetime week.
West, who plays Jake, is the son of Jason (Steve Burton) and Rebeccca Herbst (Liz). In Jake’s short life, he’s experienced some storylines that most characters never have to go through!
For starters, Liz withheld the truth about Jake’s paternity because she was married to Lucky (Jonathan Jackson) at the time of conception.
Early on in life, Jake was kidnapped but Jason found his son and brought him home. The little guy was kidnapped again by the Russian mob and this time he was saved by Sam.
Jake suffered a mild concussion after Edward Quartermaine (John Ingle) drove into a tent. This wasn’t his only auto mishap. Years later, a drunk Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary) ran down Jake and he was believed dead.
In reality, Helena (Constance Towers) had spirited him away where he was discovered years later. Jake was brought home and reunited with his family.
Jake again fell victim to being hit by a car. Franco (Roger Howarth) aided Jake’s recovery with art therapy.
West plays Jake with a maturity that would come from anyone going through all these ordeals, but he hasn’t lost the kid inside him along the way.
The actor chose a variety of scenes to put on his Daytime Emmy reel. They include finding out Drew (Billy Miller) is not his biological pop, a fantasy scene in which he was being choked, and one with Dr. Andre Maddox (Anthony Montgomery) talking about Jake’s past.
West will be one of the youngest acting award winners ever should he take home the gold on Sunday.
