It has been an emotional roller coaster for Sonny and Carly on General Hospital (GH) ever since their son Morgan died in a tragic car bombing. They had finally made their peace to split – until something happens to change everything!
This broken couple faces a life and death situation at the hands of the mobster who wants Sonny’s territory — and survive.
They celebrate by making love and then Sonny startles Carly (Laura Wright) by saying he wants to leave the mob.
According to the July 3 issues of Soap Opera Digest, head writer Shelly Altman clarifies what has changed to make Sonny (Maurice Benard) finally be on board with the request Carly has been making for a while.
“[Sonny] is facing a life in the mob and without Carly. He’s got a really critical choice here. Does he lose his whole family the way he lost Morgan, or is there another way?”

While encouraged by his declaration, Carly isn’t sure that Sonny can even do it. Frankly, he probably isn’t either. They both know the mob doesn’t take kindly to people trying to leave the “family” and this won’t be much different.
But for now, the good news for Carson fans is that the fact that he wants to helps to make this reconciliation more than a one-night-stand.
“Once he has made this statement and she believes it, they are pretty darn solid,” nods Altman.
Of course, now that Sonny and Carly have reunited, it’s a good bet that her daughter Josslyn (Eden McCoy), who is already starting to act out over her mother just kissing her former stepfather, will kick her teen rebellion up a notch. Will she end up being more trouble than the mob?
