It has been a scary time for pet mom Kristen Alderson as she’s worried about the health of her beloved Pooka, a Shih Tzu she’s had for over a decade. Now the former General Hospital and One Life to Live star has an update for fans after she asked for their prayers.
Kristen Alderson Thanks Fans
The actress, who played Starr on both shows and also created the role of Kiki on GH, first told fans about poor Pooka’s issues on August 3, when she tweeted a request for prayers — something she had done for others in the past with good results.
“Hate asking again but you guys have been the most incredible support system & prayer group,” Alderson began. “You helped pray for Eddie through his Cancer, protected my Granny from COVID in her nursing home (she never caught it) and now I hope you guys can please say a prayer for Pooka.
“Pooka (my dog/baby for those who don’t know him) is in the ICU with congestive heart failure. We rushed him there last night when he seemed to have trouble breathing. They called us this morning that he went from bad to worse. As of now, he’s doing a little better.” But her visit couldn’t last too long because the vet worried about letting him get too excited.
On August 4, she posted the following update: “Pooka update- they were planning on Pooka coming home today but they’re having a hard time weaning him off of oxygen. His heart doctor now doesn’t believe that it’s congestive heart failure because his heart condition hasn’t changed since last year.”
Then late on August 5, Alderson shared the best update of all, along with a picture of her kissing her sweet pup. “My baby Pooka is home!!! Thank you thank you thank you for your prayers! He’s a little out of it, but he ate a little bit and drank a ton of water,” she wrote, adding “he’s on meds for congestive heart failure AND for a PTE. He’s very very happy to be home with his family.”
Soap Hub is happy to hear the great news too and hopes Pooka continues to be on the mend. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.

Cannot thank everyone enough for all of your prayers! We just called and they said that he’s doing better. He ate for them and finally got some sleep.🙏He’s not out of the woods yet, but he’s seeing his cardiologist tomorrow so we’ll know more then. Again, THANK YOU!💙
