It usually feels good to solve a mystery but that was hardly the case for Carly Corinthos this week on General Hospital, as she realized that Nina’s mystery child was none other than the supposedly dead Nelle Benson Archer Jerome — her arch-nemesis. It was a process that won Laura Wright Soap Hub’s Performer of the Week.

Laura Wright Runs The Gamut

Carly had already confided in her ex-husband Jax (Ingo Rademacher) that there was something she was forgetting about the night Nelle (Chloe Lanier) slipped out of her grasp and supposedly fell to her death but she couldn’t quite put her finger on it. That is until stepdaughter Avery gave her that special push when Carly spotted her “good luck” necklace.

Yes, that necklace — the other half of the broken heart charm that would allow Nina (Cynthia Watros) to identify her long-lost daughter that was given away for adoption without her knowledge while she was in a coma. Wright played all the emotions in one fell swoop as Carly put two and two together and got the heartbreaking answer.

Not only was that horrible wretch, Nelle, Nina’s daughter, but her friend would feel horrible to learn that the child she has longed for is gone. The first order of business for Laura Wright’s Carly was getting her partner in crime, Nina’s current beau, Jax read in on the situation so she summoned him to her immediately.

He was properly horrified to hear the news and not pleased when a determined Carly let him know that there was no way they could tell Nina any of this. Better to steer her in another direction. Yet neither seemed to take into consideration that by denying Nina the knowledge of her daughter’s identity, they were also keeping her grandson Wiley from her as well.

Wright certainly knows how to play a take-charge Carly, who above all else, is motivated by wanting to keep her family safe and her own keister out of prison, despite Nelle’s death not being her fault in the first place.

While this story has taken many convoluted turns to get to this point, the payoff of Carly finally learning the truth was something fans have been clamoring for and Laura Wright certainly made it worth the wait! General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
