It was the week fans had been waiting for — Nina overheard Carly and Jax discussing for the umpteenth time the super-secret of what happened that night at the cabin when Nelle met her supposed end in the ultimate cliffhanger on General Hospital — and then confronted her new nemesis. Cynthia Watros finally got the chance to shine as Nina dragged Carly for filth — and it earned her Soap Hub’s Performer of the Week.

Cynthia Watros — Performer of the Week

There is a reason Cynthia Watros has a Daytime Emmy sitting on her shelf, which she received when she was on Guiding Light as Annie Dutton. Fans of the actress know she has what it takes to go all-out in a scene, especially when the writing is there to let her cut loose — and boy did she this past week. And the scene partner she had was Carly — former GL co-star Laura Wright (ex-Cassie).

Special kudos to Wright as well, but this material was definitely set up for Watros as Nina wanted to have her say and she wasn’t going to let a little thing like Carly’s graveside service for her “dead” husband, Sonny (Maurice Benard), stand in her way. And when Nina’s lying “bad man with a tan” ex, Jax (Ingo Rademacher), tried to intervene, she let him have it too.

After all, he could have told her months ago what happened to her daughter. Instead, he protected his ex-wife and let the woman he supposedly loved, Nina, remain devastated because she couldn’t locate her daughter. It was all to protect Carly. Everything was for Carly. Always Carly — and Nina snapped! Sure, people came to Carly’s defense, but Nina wasn’t having any of her enablers’ excuses either.

Carly let Nina have her say, but she wasn’t going to admit she let Nelle die because it just wasn’t true. She did try to save her but Nina was too angry (and really, who could blame her?) to allow for that nuance to bring her any peace.

Nina now wants revenge and while that might not be good for her, for Jax, or especially for Carly, it will be great for fans — as it will continue to give Watros incredible material to continue entertaining viewers for the foreseeable future. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
