Are Willow and Michael General Hospital’s New Monica and Alan?

Michael and Willow’s new living arrangement looks suspiciously like an old Quartermaine story. But if GH is trying to recreate Alan and Monica, there’s one major difference that could make this version much darker.

Michael is forcing Willow to move into a gatehouse on the Quartermaine property if she wants to see her children on General Hospital. With all this talk of toxic couples and children’s custody and real estate, we’ve gotten to wondering if this is GH’s way of turning Willow and Michael into the 21st century’s Alan and Monica?

Key Takeaways

  • Willow and Michael will be living in his family’s home.
  • Alan and Monica were forced to live together.
  • Is Port Charles history repeating itself?

Michael and Willow Are Starting to Look Awfully Familiar

Before Michael (Rory Gibson) bullied Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) into moving into the Quartermaine guesthouse, he bullied Tracy (Jane Elliott) into agreeing to his plan. Tracy knows all about estranged couples cohabitating in the home she thinks of as hers.

Except that Alan (Stuart Damon) gifted the house to Monica (Leslie Charleson), and whenever he irritated his wife, Monica would throw Alan and his whole family out on their ears. Of course, he’d eventually come back, they’d reconcile… and the whole cycle would start all over again. Are Willow and Michael headed down the same path?

Alan and Monica Proved Hate Wasn’t the Opposite of Love

After Jacinda drugged Willow, she let down her guard and admitted she missed Michael — as a friend. Did he take that as an invitation to get back together with the woman Michael claims to hate? Is that why he wants her close by?

Alan and Monica would swear they hated each other. She cheated on him with Rick (Chris Robinson) and claimed he fathered Alan Jr. (Sean Kanan). He cheated on her with Susan (Gail Rae Carlson) and fathered Jason (Steve Burton). There were other lovers, other spouses, but, in the end, the couple was together and happy when Alan died.

Michael and Willow Are Missing What Made Alan and Monica Work

But there’s a difference between Alan and Monica, and Willow and Michael. Alan and Monica were equally matched. They were both doctors, both capable of giving as good as they got.

Willow grew up in a cult and has practically no self-esteem. Michael uses that to manipulate her. Michael is rich, Willow isn’t. Also, Alan wanted to be equal to Monica. Michael wants to control Willow. This isn’t a love match. This is dysfunction.
