When General Hospital recast John “Jagger” Cates (Adam Harrington) this year, viewers knew it was only a matter of time before the agent was paired with one of the women of Port Charles. Anna (Finola Hughes) was the first person to run into John when he returned to town, and despite their initial differences, the two may just be starting to understand each other.

Hughes recently discussed the situation with Soap Opera Digest. Although she admitted that Anna views Jagger “extremely suspiciously,” Anna ended up leaning on Jagger recently.

Their History

When Anna first saw John, she immediately recognized him as Jagger, a friend of her daughter Robin’s (Kimberly McCullough) from back in the day. She recalled how highly Robin spoke of him, and John remembered her daughter fondly.

However, it didn’t take long for things to go sour between the two when John revealed his determination to take down Sonny (Maurice Benard), even if it meant stepping on Anna’s toes as police commissioner. The pair have seemed to be on opposite sides ever since, despite both being on the right side of the law.

Will Bonding Turn Into More?

After a long day on the job that involved John questioning Danny (Asher Antonyzyn) without a parent present and Anna looking the other way when Dex (Evan Hofer) gave her information on Sonny, Anna showed up at John’s hotel room offering him a much-needed drink.

They swapped stories of their day, Anna admitting John was right to want to take down Sonny after learning of his attempt to off Cyrus (Jeff Kober) while John admitted it was wrong of him to question a minor without adult supervision. Anna even admitted her loyalty to Sonny stemmed from the fact he was there for Robin when John’s brother Stone (Michael Sutton) died.

Their conversation ended with a toast to “being better tomorrow” after acknowledging the day was neither of their finest as cops. That interaction leads to “The greater understanding that she comes to is that he isn’t the [jerk] she thought he was!” Hughes said.

Could this unexpected bonding moment lead to more for Anna and John? Let us know in the comments.
