General Hospital left fans buzzing when it revealed Cassius survived being shot by Cullum, instantly raising one question: Is Ryan Paevey coming back? During GH Fan Club Weekend, Soap Central reported that the actor shared that the possibility isn’t off the table, but it depends on one very specific thing. Paevey explained why Cassius became his favorite role on the soap and revealed what it would take for him to return to Port Charles.

Key Takeaways

  • Ryan Paevey said he’d return as Cassius if the character could become “an agent of chaos.”
  • Paevey admitted he preferred playing Cassius over Nathan because the role gave him more freedom.
  • The actor said any return would depend on a conversation with executive producer Frank Valentini and fitting his life away from the show.

Cassius Would Need the Right Story

Fans didn’t waste any time asking the question that’s been circulating since Cassius was revealed to be alive. Would Paevey come back? His answer wasn’t a yes, but it certainly wasn’t a no.

Paevey said any return would begin with a conversation with executive producer Frank Valentini. However, he also explained he isn’t interested in signing another long-term contract after stepping away from the series. Since leaving daytime, he’s taken on new responsibilities, including caring for his parents and rebuilding his jewelry company, Fortunate Wanderer.

Even so, he admitted he’d happily return if Cassius had the chance to shake up Port Charles. Calling the character a “good agent of chaos,” Paevey suggested he’d be excited to revisit Cassius if the story let him stir the pot rather than settle into a quieter role.

Why Cassius Was More Fun Than Nathan

Paevey also surprised many fans by revealing he actually enjoyed playing Cassius more than Nathan.

He described Nathan as a lovable character but noted that much of his story revolved around his romance with Maxie. Cassius, meanwhile, interacted with a much wider range of Port Charles residents and found himself in the middle of action across the canvas.

The actor recalled scenes with Sonny (Maurice Benard), Carly (Laura Wright), and others, saying the variety made the role especially enjoyable.

The Door Isn’t Closed

While Paevey made it clear he values the life he’s built away from daytime, he also left fans with reason to be optimistic.

Cassius is alive, and Paevey hasn’t ruled out returning. If the story gives the character plenty of opportunities to create trouble, the conversation about bringing him back may be one worth having.
