Denise Alexander last appeared as Leslie Webber on General Hospital in early 2021, and today, the actress has her own milestone to celebrate.

Happy Birthday, Denise Alexander

That’s because she was born on November 11, 1939, in New York City, New York, which means that this talented performer turns 84 years old today!

Long before her starring role on GH, Alexander had an association with the medical-tinged soap. She had appeared as the featured patient in the never-aired pilot back when it was an anthology series called Emergency Hospital, and she had a small part as Lorna Hill in 1965.

By the time Alexander was a firmly ensconced junior at UCLA, she had appeared in countless radio series episodes and a multitude of Broadway shows. Her film debut was Don Siegel’s Crime in the Streets.

During and after college, Denise Alexander turned her attention towards a television career, eventually racking up 200 credits. Her first daytime role was Lois Adams on The Clear Horizon, a CBS serial about astronauts and their families.

That was quickly followed by a stint as Emily Sanders on Ben Jerrod, an NBC soap about small-town lawyers. Then in March of 1966, Alexander joined the cast of Ted Corday’s fledgling soap opera Days of our Lives. For the next seven years, Alexander was front and center, involved in several sensational storylines ranging from total mental collapse to homicide to a love triangle involving two brothers.

In 1973, amidst delicate contract negotiations with DAYS, Alexander chose to vacate the part and instead join the cast of General Hospital. Just as she had at DAYS, Alexander played a pivotal leading lady, and for the next 13 years, Dr. Lesley Webber found herself the nucleus of multiple plot points.

However, just like before, stalled contract negotiations led to Alexander’s departure from one washboard weeper to another — this time, it was NBC’s Another World — although she would eventually return to GH, where she has made guest appearances for the past few decades. Soap Hub would like to wish Denise Alexander a very happy birthday and many more.
