Nelle The “Minx” UNLEASHED On General Hospital (GH)

It looks like General Hospital (GH) is going where it’s not dare gone before–turning Nelle into a full-blown bad girl and leaving any chance of a redemption behind. Every soap needs a good dose of nasty ingenue and Nelle seems to be it.

For a long time, Nelle seemed like a character lost on the page with absolutely no direction and no reason for even being around except to cause artificial strife for Carly (Laura Wright) and Sonny (Maurice Benard).

Michael didn’t NEED a girlfriend because he was already in a popular coupling and the mysterious case of Josslyn’s (Eden McCoy) kidney could have been solved any number of (more realistic) ways.

But, if Tuesday and Wednesday’s episodes of GH prove anything, it’s the show is done playing around and knows exactly what it wants to do with Nelle. She’s the all around town baddie, and it’s a good thing because they have an actress right there with the chops to pull things off.

We’ve seen the b**ch come out in Nelle many times before, but it’s always been in spurts and never been sustained. Michael (Chad Duell) was always sympathetic to her and the writers tried to make her sympathetic to us, but it didn’t work.

So, why not throw caution to the wind which is exactly what Nelle is doing. She thinks she has an ace up her sleeve with this sudden pregnancy, but something is bound to go wrong and Nelle will cross the point of no return when she has to manufacture a baby for Michael. (Maxie, watch out!)

The GH fandom has had a lot to say about Nelle on social media, while Soap Hub has also been critical, but now we think we see something here and clearly so does new GH Co-Head Writer Chris Van Etten.

He caught up on a week’s worth of episodes on Tuesday night and live-tweeted as he watched, giving us his take on Nelle (that you can see below). It’s clear he’s behind the character and we see good things coming at last.

General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
