Soap Hub was on the scene at The Hollywood Museum on Wednesday night for a reception honoring Daytime Emmy nominees. We caught up with General Hospital (GH) nominee Jeffrey Vincent Parise who’s up for Outstanding Supporting Actor.

Read on to hear what the actor has to say about his chances of winning and more!

Congratulations on your Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor. How did having two characters – Carlos and Joe – help in selecting your scenes?
It certainly made it easier. I knew I wanted Joe in the mix, but there were only a few from which to choose. The hardest part was choosing the scenes with Carlos in them.

A lot of GH fans were happy when you came back as Joe after Carlos was killed off. There were lots of possibilities especially as Joe’s a doctor, but then it kind of ended abruptly.
I was surprised. I think I was as surprised as everyone else was. I don’t know why [Joe] didn’t quite stick. It’s possible the plan was all along to bring him on to get [the late Sabrina’s son] Teddy out of there. The [GH] producers knew I had other things coming up. Maybe there were some scheduling conflicts? I don’t really know.

Well, Joe stuck with the viewers – he just didn’t stay. A lot of people liked him.
Oh, cool. Thank you.

What were some of the other projects you had going on?
I went right from General Hospital to season two of The Detour on TBS. I played a guy named Carlos and he’s a quintessential Latin lover who downward spiraled into being a douchebag. I got to work with everybody on the show – Natalie Zea (ex-Gwen, Passions) and Jason Jones. The kids on it are amazing.

That’s an edgy comedy. It’s so adult you don’t think it could ever be made.
It’s so over the line, but it’s done so intelligently that I think that’s why it’s stayed. It just got picked up for a third season.

Is it possible you could be back for a season 3 on The Detour?
Anything’s possible. [He’s] still alive – we’ve seen what happened to the last Carlos [on GH]. He was dead and he came back!

Have you seen the reels of your fellow nominees?
Yes.

What do you think of them?
(Laughs) I don’t like my odds! They’re all amazing.

If GH were to reach out, would you reprise Joe?
Anything’s possible!
