Earlier this year, General Hospital (GH) fans were stunned when Blake Berris took over the role of Spinelli earlier this year, the first time another actor had ever played the part since he was first introduced in 2006.
Spinelli is no longer a regular on the soap, and we learned this was just a pinch hit because actor Bradford Anderson wasn’t available to tape when GH needed him. This is a chance a soap takes when a performer is no longer on contract.
Spinelli has returned twice since then and Anderson has reprised the character he brought to fame. Soap Hub asked if you think anyone else could ever be accepted as the quirky computer wiz with the heart of gold.
Not surprisingly, your answer was pretty clear. Out of more than 3,000 votes, 78% of you can’t see anyone else as Spinelli and feel this upcoming appearance is his first one of the year.
You thought of Blake Berris as someone else a few months back when Maxie and Nathan married and didn’t see Spinelli at all. Sure, iconic soap characters are recast all the time, but there are some unique ones that exist as only one actor in your mind and Spinelli is one of them.
Then again, 22% of you are used to recasts and just go with the flow. After all, you never saw anyone else as Edward Quartermaine, but John Ingle eventually made the part his own.
Others thought that only Steve Burton could bring Stone Cold to life, but Billy Miller seems to be doing a stellar job as Spinelli’s best bud. If Jason could look and sound different, then why not Spinelli? (Of course, Steve Burton is now returning, but we have no real idea who he will play.)
