The good news is that William deVry is staying on at General Hospital (GH) as convicted bad boy Julian Jerome.
The bad news is that the show’s writers have a big task ahead of them — how do they salvage the popular pairing of Julian and Alexis (aka “Julexis”) since he once threatened her life?
Soap Hub talked to deVry to get his thoughts on how Julian’s dynamic with Alexis can not only survive — but flourish!
It’s Complicated
Julian not only threatened Alexis’ life, but he did it holding the dagger that Helena used to kill her mother.
“It’s a delicate balance when you’re looking at what made him do what he did,” says deVry. “We’re doing a soap opera and I don’t think anyone can forget that. I want to say this delicately, but we can’t always be a crusader for every issue. We’re a soap opera.”
There’s truth to this: how many times did Sonny and Carly face issues that would tear any couple apart only to have them reunite again and again (and again)!
Veteran GH viewers recall that Alan and Monica got back together after his failed attempted to literally bring down the roof on his wife and her lover, Rick Webber.

The Whole Truth
“It’s important to note that so far it’s been Julian’s word as to why he did what he did,” says deVry, noting that there may be some hidden non-malevolent reason for his actions.
“The story they’ve been trying to tell, as I see, it is that if he didn’t make it look like he was going to kill her and take that as far as he could (then something even worse could have happened).
“Maybe there was a bullseye on the forehead of his family? Maybe had he not done what he’d done it could have cost Molly, Lucas, and Leo (and others) their lives? That’s how I played it.”
How To Get Away With (Attempted) Murder
Unless Julian’s going to save the governor’s daughter from a bomb explosion (that’s what got Sonny sprung after he was imprisoned for killing AJ), he’s going to need another way to get out of the big house.
“The only way to get out of it will be if someone corroborates [this] and we learn it wasn’t about Julian doing what he wanted — it was about if he doesn’t, he’ll be killed and so will his whole family.”
The actor is confident that GH’s creative team will come up with a way in which to get Julian back in Port Charles and in Alexis’ orbit once more.
