EXCLUSIVE: Nancy Lee Grahn Speaks Out On The Future of Julexis

There are two big questions related to William deVry’s continuing as Julian on General Hospital. Will he remain on the show? And, if he does, what’s the future for the fan-favorite coupling called Julexis?

Soap Hub spoke with Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) at the summer TV Critics press tour party in Beverly Hills to get her input on where the couple could go if and when deVry‘s deal with the show is hammered out.

It’s Complicated
“The audience has been so supportive of this coupling,” Grahn told Soap Hub, adding “it’s tricky and complex.”

She is referring to the fact that while Julian and Alexis have shared a very passionate relationship, he did try to kill her after she attempted to coerce a murder confession out of him.

Adding insult to (nearly-fatal) injury, Julian threatened Alexis with the dagger that was used to kill her own mother! (Ouch!)

“The integrity of my character needs to be preserved,” notes Grahn, acknowledging that it would appear very out of character for Alexis to reunite with a man who tried to end her life. “They’re working on figuring out how to do that.”

(Note: Julian did save Alexis’s life when she was being held hostage by his deranged sister Olivia Jerome.)

Insights And Possibilities
“Both [Alexis and Julian] come from very violent backgrounds,” says Grahn. “It makes sense that they love each other, but the repercussions [of what’s gone on] exist and have to be addressed and [we need] to see if there’s a way for them to find their way back.”

Can it be done? GH is a show in which Sonny killed A.J. in cold blood and Ava Jerome (Maura West) offed Connie and neither have paid for their crimes with lengthy jail sentences.

As for Alexis and Julian’s dynamic in particular, Grahn says, “I think the writers understand and respect the abuse issue that is there. I’ve talked to them, and I think the writers and the network are very sensitive to this issue.

“They’re trying to do right by it. They’re trying to do the right thing.”
