Last week General Hospital confirmed that Tonja Walker would return to the soap – but who she is playing remains a mystery – even to the actress herself!
Walker has played two iconic roles on two ABC soaps, and now she may be bringing one of them to Port Charles.
Either One Life to Live’s flamboyant Alex Olanov or General Hospital’s Olivia Jerome back from the dead – would be an exciting development for fans, but even if it turns out she’s playing someone totally new, viewers can expect Walker’s character to really shake things up in town.
Soap Hub spoke with the gracious actress about her return and what a return to ABC daytime means to her after so many years away.
“I am so moved and quite frankly amazed, at the fans for keeping hope alive for the characters I’ve played for all of these years. It means so much to me, their desire to see these characters again and of course I loved these characters, too.”
Even though the actress left General Hospital back in 1990 when Olivia was killed by her own brother, Julian (now played by William deVry), she hasn’t been out of the hearts of viewers. So when deVry joined the cast, people started getting excited.
“For so many years, I’ve fielded messages saying, ‘The Jerome Family is back on GH! I know you are coming back! Come on, when are you coming back?’ I have always replied to these inquiries saying, ‘I’m so dead!’ or ‘Thank you so much for asking, but no the PTB [powers that be] haven’t called.’ Well, they CALLED!”
