The year 2020 has been a hard one worldwide as families have been separated in order to protect more vulnerable members from contracting COVID-19. It’s hard to believe this pandemic has been affecting us for nearly a year, but former General Hospital star Vanessa Marcil reminds us of that fact after paying a visit to her mom for her birthday. She chronicled the visit and how hard the last year has been in two Instagram posts.

Vanessa Marcil Celebrates Safely

“We haven’t seen my mom for 10 months. We are used to her living with us for Kass’ whole life. This year was supposed to be the greatest year of all of our lives,” Marcil wrote. “My son’s year. I’m truly heartbroken for a number of reasons and still know that I must remain grateful for so much. My heart is broken for all of the families who are suffering such great loss. I feel the pain of all beautiful souls just trying to survive and care for their children.

“We quarantined for two weeks and have taken 4 tests to be able to finally go see my mom for her bday. Outside, socially distanced and in head to toe hazmat suits and three masks w gloves. Kass and I have never gone more than a few weeks without seeing gagoo. Now it’s been almost a year. I’m sad, mad & confused. We are Devastated and still somehow hopeful. All at once. If you are struggling today, #ImWithYou.”

Marcil then showed us how careful they all were with PPE and distancing in order to make sure her mother stays safe and healthy.

“Happy 79th bday Gagoo!!!!!! We were able to visit Gagoo after not seeing her for 10 months because of covid and take bday & Chanukah presents to her safely. We quarantined for two weeks and then we were tested before we went. Amazing how much better we all feel today💥💥💥💥💥💥 wishing you all love, health and safety first for our most vulnerable. Next year for Gagoo’s 80th we are gonna party together like it’s 1999…….”

Here’s to partying and loving our families in the next year as we reunite and have the 2021 we deserve after such a dark and difficult year. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
