Move over, Lucy Coe! Recently, General Hospital star Maurice Benard (Sonny) acted as a real-life officiator to his daughter Cailey’s wedding to her fiancé Carlos — and it was an incredibly special moment.
Maurice Benard – Full of Emotion
“Never in my life did I think I would marry anyone,” Benard posted on Instagram. “Especially not one of my daughters. Marrying Cailey and Carlos was an honor and a privilege not to mention very, very sweet.
“I’ve already started getting emotional,” the Emmy-winner and proud father began. “First of all, I want to say — Cailey, when she was born one of the first things I remember was that she had a ton of hair…she was absolutely stunning. Big brown eyes. Beautiful skin — like she has now.”
Maurice Benard also described his daughter’s internal characteristics — tough-minded, a little stubborn, very intelligent, and a lover of animals. “She was a ‘Mama’s Girl,'” the actor added, referring to the tight bond that Cailey has with her mother, Benard’s wife, Paula.
“If I had things to do over, I would have done things more so she’d be a bit more of a ‘Daddy’s Girl.’ I always told Paula that she’s not going to [ever] leave the house,” chuckled Benard, noting that his wife and daughter did everything together. “Wherever Paula was, there was Cailey.”

Benard notes that Cailey became more independent after she turned 18. “I’m so damn proud of her,” he says. “I just want to say that we love you to death…
“Then, one day,” Benard continues, “she brought home a guy. His name was Carlos. We thought he was mute because he didn’t talk for like a year! I said to Cailey, ‘What’s up with Carlos?’ She said, ‘You have to get to know him.'” Benard replied: “Honey, it’s been six months!”
Eventually, Cailey’s love opened him up. “We started figuring out who the true Carlos was,” Benard adds. “Inside of him is somebody who’s a hard-worker, an honorable man, and one thing I can tell you 100% is that he’s going to have my daughter’s back and we love him like a son.”
