Steve Burton joined General Hospital in 1991, but the actor was amassing credits in the decade prior. He and other working actors at that time would see each other both at auditions and at industry events. He recently shared a classic photo from that era!
Steve Burton: The 1980s Teen Scene
“Wow! A throwback to the late 80’s!” Burton posted on Instagram, identifying his fellow actors in the photo as David Faustino (Married With Children), Justin Whalin, and Bobby Jacoby.
Around this time, Burton was appearing as Chris on Out of This World, the syndicated sitcom that starred Donna Pescow (ex-Lynn, All My Children) as the mother of a teen girl, Evie, played by Maureen Flannigan, who had special powers as she was half-alien!
Ironically, Whalin played A.J. Quartermaine around this time. (Note how Steve Burton towers over the young actor, who is playing Jason’s older brother!) Eagle-eyed Knots Landing fans recall Bobby Jacoby as Brian Cunningham, the son of Abby Fairgate Ewing (Donna Mills, who went on to play Madeline Reeves on GH).

Jacoby played the role in the early to mid-80s. Later, Brian Austin Green (David, Beverly Hills 90210) took over the part. Jacoby continues to act. Post-KNOTS, he joined the cast of Diff’rent Strokes as Ricky. He went on to work regularly, appearing on shows in the 1990s including Party of Five, Walker, Texas Ranger, and in the 2001 film Pearl Harbor. His most recent credit was playing Peregus Malister in Mythica: The Necromancer.
Whalin’s best-known credit after leaving the General Hospital Quartermaine mansion was playing Jimmy Olsen in Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. His last credit appears to be the 2009 film Off the Ledge.
Faustino has continued to work steadily since the conclusion of Married With Children in 1997. In 2013, he was reunited with TV dad Ed O’Neill in an episode of O’Neill’s series Modern With Family, which ended earlier this year.
All four of the actors in Burton’s photo have ties to the soap world. Eagle-eyed fans of The Young and the Restless recall seeing Faustino in Genoa City as Howard Green, who was involved in the drama going on at GC Buzz. General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. Check local listings for air times.
