He’s played Jason Morgan on General Hospital since 1991 — give a hiatus or two — but how much do you really know about actor Steve Burton? Below you will find fast facts including his very first acting assignment and the name of the adult magazine that he modeled for.
Burton’s first acting gig was on the syndicated sitcom Out of This World. He appeared in 60 episodes as surfer dude Chris Fuller. A year later he landed a recurring role on the NBC sudser Days of Our Lives.
While many actors find their family less than thrilled about their offspring’s desire to pursue a career in the performing arts world, Burton had a family member in his corner. He was bitten by the bug while visiting his father in California and his dad encouraged his son to pursue his dream of becoming an actor.
Despite having appeared on two other soap operas — Days of Our Lives and The Young and the Restless — Burton is, of course, best known for his nearly 30-year stint at GH.
And he has certainly been rewarded handsomely for his work. He won the 1998 Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor, as well as four Soap Opera Digest Awards.
Burton dabbled in modeling when he was younger and in April of 1995 (about four years into his GH run), Burton graced the cover of Playgirl magazine. The issue included an interview and photo spread but, before you get too excited, he did NOT allow himself to be photographed in the nude.
Passing The Torch
Although he is mostly known for his work in the daytime arena, Burton is also a very popular voice actor. To millions of video game players, he’s instantly recognized as the talent behind Cloud Strife, a character in the popular Kingdom Hearts franchise.
Despite voicing Strife for over years, Burton had to give it all away earlier this year. In June, Burton revealed on Twitter that the games parent company had decided to take the game in new directions and had issued a directive to recast most of the American voice cast.
In the same Tweet, Burton gave kudos to his successor Cody Christian. General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
