General Hospital (GH) is known for having some passionate and divergent fanbases. Back in the 1990s, magazines received envelopes filled with small plastic knives to symbolize the war between Jax and Brenda and Sonny and Brenda fans.
In the 21st century, Jason and Sam (JaSam) and Jason and Liz (Liason) fans battled it out for who the One True Pairing (OTP) would be, and now there’s a twist on that battle, with essentially JaSam fans fighting JaSam fans, except one character is no longer Jason.
Billy Miller’s character has been revealed as Drew Cain and the fanbase Miller grew over the last three years during his pairing with Kelly Monaco’s Sam has basically learned to live with it, calling themselves DreAm fans now.
However, some have been outright disrespectful–to both the actors and other fans–with one recently wishing death on Burton and his co-stars.
Several weeks ago, Miller and Monaco took to Twitter to ask for kindness, indicating they are doing their jobs and not taking sides, and now Burton has done the same, saying all three actors are just playing what’s on the page, which is what most actors do every day.
Monaco and Burton worked well together for more than a decade before he left the soap in 2011, and Miller and Burton even briefly worked together on The Young and the Restless before Miller made the jump to GH.
According to reports, Burton even called Miller after he worked out an agreement to return to the soap to tell him personally and say he hopes the actor who had been playing Jason would stay.
See tweets below from Monaco and Burton asking fans to keep it clean and keep it kind because after all, they are playing characters on the screen to entertain us, not tear us apart.
General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
Please stop. ???????? There is no ill will with @kellymonaco1 or #BillyMiller. We are a team of actors telling a story. We are a team delivering the story we are given. No hate. No fan wars. We we one. 🙂
