General Hospital‘s WSB has changed throughout the years. There was a time when they were the good guys, but no more.
Key Takeaways
- WSB agents once helped save the world.
- The WSB was thought of as the good guys, while the DVX was evil.
- The agency has become corrupt with little sign of changing.
WSB History
The World Security Bureau, or WSB, is an international intelligence agency that has operated as a global counterintelligence and security force on GH. It has been on the scene since the early 80s, during the Ice Princess storyline. WSB Agent Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) helped Luke (Anthony Geary) and Laura (Genie Francis) save the world from the evil Cassadine family.
From there, we were introduced to Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) and Sean Donely (John Reilly). These agents were a bit morally ambiguous at times, but were ultimately on the right side. The bad guys were the DVX, and the rivalry between the two agencies was fierce.
There were years when the WSB did not dominate storylines. The agency reemerged when Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) was recruited for a mission, suffered PTSD, and was treated in their facility in Switzerland.
Frisco Jones (Jack Wagner) was head of the agency for a time, as was Victor Cassadine (Charles Shghnessy) of all people. The WSB was never all good but not all bad. They destroyed Anna’s life and hired some very questionable agents, but they usually came through. Somehow, the agency has recently completely lost its way.
WSB Now
Station Chief Jack Brennan (Chris McKenna) brought the WSB back to the forefront in Port Charles. He recruited Josslyn (Eden McCoy), who truly wants to do good.
Then there was Cullum (Andrew Hawkes), who led the agency through a very dark time. He was beyond corrupt and used the WSB for his nefarious deeds. During his reign, Jason (Steve Burton) was taken away and imprisoned in Jakarta. He had no rights, no trial, and was severely beaten.
When Cullum was finally killed, Z (John Oliver) wielded his own power to cover up what the WSB had done. With Cullum gone, the agency should have cleaned house and redeemed itself. So far, that does not appear to be happening.
Brennan is missing, and Agent Baines (Alimi Ballard) decided that Nina (Cynthia Watros) was the culprit with very little evidence. Once again, she had no rights and no trial. The Crimson Editor was hauled off to Steinmauer, and who knows what is happening to her.
What happened to saving the world? The WSB has become corrupt and dangerous. Do you agree?
