Could General Hospital be setting the stage for a new Port Charles love triangle? Michael and Willow’s complicated relationship is once again putting the former spouses in each other’s orbit, just as Serena Baldwin makes her return to town. With Lucy already nudging Serena toward Michael, the ingredients are there for Willow to find herself facing some unexpected competition.
Key Takeaways
- Michael and Willow could get closer again as she moves back into the Quartermaine boathouse.
- Lucy is pushing Serena toward Michael, potentially opening the door to a new GH romance.
- Willow could become the wild card if Michael and Serena’s growing connection turns romantic.
History Lesson
Michael (Rory Gibson) and Willow’s (Katelyn MacMullen) relationship began as a friendship after they met in a bereavement support group in 2018. In 2020, they entered into a marriage of convenience to strengthen Michael’s chances of gaining custody of Wiley during his bitter court battle with Nelle (Chloe Lanier). But their arrangement soon turned into something real.
Although Michael and Willow later had their marriage annulled and she married Chase (Josh Swickard), their feelings for each other never disappeared, and they ultimately reunited. The couple remarried in 2023 and welcomed their daughter, Amelia. Their relationship eventually unraveled, however, with infidelity on both sides — Michael with Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) and Willow with Drew (Cameron Mathison) — leading to their divorce in 2025.
Serena Baldwin (Kelly Kruger) was born on GH in 1993 as the biological daughter of Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner) and the late Dominique Stanton (Shell Danielson). After Dominique was diagnosed with a fatal brain tumor, Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring) served as the couple’s surrogate and gave birth to Serena.
Now, nearly a decade after her last appearance, Serena is back in Port Charles and helping Lucy at Deception. Her return could also bring romance into the picture, especially since Lucy has been pushing her daughter in Michael’s direction.
Chem Test
With Willow moving back into the Quartermaine boathouse so Michael can keep an eye on her and remain close to his children, could old feelings eventually resurface?
Michael certainly has reasons to keep his guard up. Willow allowed him to be accused of shooting Drew, even though she was responsible. Michael also learned, courtesy of Trina (Tabyana Ali) and Kai (Jens Austin Astrup), that Willow did indeed shoot Drew.
Before Willow’s downward spiral, however, she was a much softer and more sympathetic character. Spending more time around Michael and their children could allow some of that side of Willow to reemerge. Michael may currently see their new living arrangement as a means to an end, but on a soap, proximity between exes rarely goes unnoticed.
That becomes even more interesting with Serena now in the picture.
If Serena and Michael hook up, could she find herself dealing with a jealous Willow? Willow has already shown what can happen when she feels threatened. Jacinda (Paige Herschell) never got the chance to face Willow’s wrath for drugging her drink, but while Jacinda and Michael were dating, Willow made plenty of threats toward her, primarily where Wiley and Amelia were concerned.
Michael and Serena Get Closer?
So far, Serena and Michael have only crossed paths a handful of times at the pool. But with Serena scheming alongside Lucy, those encounters could become much more frequent.
There is also another connection bringing them into the same orbit: Michael bought Maxie’s (Kirsten Storms) stake in Deception, where Serena is now helping her mother.
That gives GH plenty of opportunities to test the chemistry between Michael and Serena while Willow remains close by. If sparks do fly, Serena could quickly find herself caught in the middle of one of Port Charles’ most complicated relationships.
Could General Hospital be building toward a Michael, Willow and Serena triangle? And if Michael moves on with Serena, how will Willow react?
Do you like the idea of Michael and Serena together, or are you hoping Michael and Willow eventually find their way back to each other?
