A Critic’s Review Of General Hospital: Solid Development & Swift Conclusion

The author’s opinions on GH are his and his alone. They’re suitably scathing, fairly humorous, and normally bang on target.

When it comes to General Hospital, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the GH week that was.

General Hospital: The Critic’s POV

Boy, were we in for some solid plot development this week or what? We’re inching ever closer to the joyous day when Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) will be rescued, Maxie (Kirsten Storms) and Lucy (Lynn Herring) have deduced that Brooky Lynn (Amanda Setton) is the traitor in their midst, Nikolas (Adam Huss) was revealed to be up and at em and looking no worse for wear (I really didn’t see that one coming), and talk about a Friday cliffhanger — Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), THE Sonny Corinthos in handcuffs?! Well played interim writers, well played.

Now, that well-earned praise is in the ether, let’s get down to what irked me this week. First and foremost, there was the dreaded impression I got that Nikolas has some sort of gargoyle statue to the head-induced amnesia…and if I’m proven right, that makes THREE simultaneous cases of memory and/or identity loss on one soap, and that’s three cases too many (and this is coming from someone whose favorite soap trope is amnesia).

And then there’s Trina (Tabyana Ali) calling Curtis “daddy” in that annoying sing-song voice. At best, that’s a slap in the face to Marcus Taggert/Réal Andrews and, at worst, it’s a massive betrayal of just who these characters are.

I’m also still holding out hope that the likes of Gregory’s (Gregory Harrison) ALS diagnosis and TJ (Tajh Bellow) and Molly’s (Brooke Anne Smith) surrogacy storyline will soon be brought to a swift conclusion (and that the former will wind up a misdiagnosis) and that the writers will find something for Josslyn (Eden McCoy) to do other than pout, decry Sonny, and have sex with Dex (Evan Hofer), and to finally “adultify” Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) and Chase (Josh Swickard). Their cloying preciousness annoys me.

Further GH Musings

* A round of applause for Josh Kelly who finally impressed this columnist with his plumbing the depths of Cody’s psyche.

* Does Anybody else notice how Selena Wu (Lydia Look) doesn’t so much walk in and out of a room as she does slink into and out of a room?

* How unfortunate for Maxie (Kirsten Storms) that moving house does not a storyline make.
