A Critic’s Review Of General Hospital: Chemistry, Drama & A Warm Welcome

The author’s opinions on GH are his and his alone. They’re suitably scathing, fairly humorous, and normally bang on target.

When it comes to General Hospital, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the GH week that was.

General Hospital: The Critic’s POV

It was a return decades in the making, and I am pleased to report that Rena Sofer’s reprisal of Lois Cerullo has been nothing but a qualified success (and before you try to quantify, yes, I’m making that very bold proclamation after seeing her in action in only one episode).

Sofer and on-screen daughter Amanda Setton [Brook Lynn] have a most appraisable familial chemistry, and the actress can obviously still hold her own against powerhouse Jane Elliot [Tracy Quartermaine].

I was also immediately sold on the idea of Lois and Olivia being childhood besties, so convincing were Sofer and Lisa LoCicero in their interaction.

And, joy of joys, there’s still a spark there between Sofer and Wally Kurth — though I am not in any way advocating for a Lois/”Neddie”/Olivia love triangle. That would be a waste of Sofer’s talents, and, honestly, it’s what is expected.

Further GH Musings

* Did Liesl (Kathleen Gati) and Phyllis (Joyce Guy) have better things to do than come and support Nina (Cynthia Watros) and Sonny (Maurice Benard)?

And speaking of the duo — Nina and Sonny, not Liesl and Phyllis — I was pleasantly surprised that the wedding proceeded without a hitch. How very un-General Hospital.

* Here’s hoping that Portia’s (Brook Kerr) ascension to the co-Chief of Staff at GH position will see the character embroiled in storylines related to the hospital and prevent her from stooping to meddle in her daughter’s life. A reprieve from her domestic drama with Curtis (Donnell Turner) would also be greatly appreciated.

* Kudos to Josh Swickard [Harrison Chase] for putting in the work.

* Welcome back, Genie Francis [Laura Collins]! My how you were missed.
