Billy Miller and Steve Burton: Yes, They’re Friends And Ready To Roll

Steve Burton on General Hospital

Tomorrow marks the return of Steve Burton to Port Charles and General Hospital, although we still don’t know yet if he’ll be playing Jason Morgan, the role that skyrocketed him to daytime fame after Jason Quartermaine lost his memory and personality in a 1995 car accident.

After all, we already have a Jason Morgan, don’t we? He’s lingering in a coma, making Sam (Kelly Monaco) crazy with worry and grief. The man who had Steve Burton’s face is gone now in her mind and she’s married to the new Jason, who she thinks is the old Jason. And, of course, he may very well be the old Jason.

If that’s confusing for you, it doesn’t sound all that confusing for the actors possibly vying for the title of Jason, according to Burton himself.

In fact, both Burton and Miller have known each other for quite some time and seem to always want to make sure they aren’t stepping on the other’s toes.

When Burton first joined The Young and the Restless as Dylan McAvoy in 2013 after leaving GH, he and Miller became friends. When Miller decided to leave Y&R and take over the role of Jason, he called Burton to discuss the choice.

“I heard rumblings about it once it happened,” Burton said in the September 25 issue of Soap Opera Digest. “Billy and I talked. He and I were friends on The Young and the Restless, we worked together, and I was thinking like ‘Man, like who could do it?’ And you know, Billy can do it.

“[So], he called me and said, ‘Hey, I’m doing it,’ and I said, ‘Cool, go do it.'”

When Burton sealed the deal to return to GH, he returned the favor to Miller and called him out of respect.

“I called Billy before I came back,” he told Digest. “I said, ‘Hey man you called me when you were taking Jason and obviously, you heard I’m coming back. I just wanted to tell you I’m looking forward to it and I hope you stay because I think we’re going to have some cool story.”

Well, we look forward to that “cool story” and can’t wait to see what will happen in the weeks and months to come because no doubt we won’t be bored.
