Where would soap operas be without heroes? The good guys who come to the aid of damsels in distress and save the day from the villains who cause destruction in the towns and cities of Los Angeles, Salem, Port Charles, and Genoa City.

Soap Operas: Holding Out For A Hero

Many heroic characters filled the canvases of The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of our Lives, General Hospital, and The Young and the Restless. Read on to see who the best of the best were in 2019!

The Bold and the Beautiful: Douglas Forrester

If it weren’t for Douglas Forrester (Henry Joseph Samiri) willing to go against his father, Thomas (Matthew Atkinson), then Hope (Annika Noelle) and Liam (Scott Clifton) might never have gotten baby Beth back.

Douglas knew that he had to do the right thing and kept persisting until the grownups believed him. This heroic little boy kept saying ‘Baby Beth is alive’ until people believed him even though he knew his father wasn’t taking the news very well (to say the least)!

Days of our Lives: Doug Williams

Doug (Bill Hayes) and Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) are so romantic they have not only one love theme, but two (The Most Beautiful Girl in the World and The Look of Love). When Julie suffered a near-fatal heart attack, no one would have blamed Doug if he lost the will to fight himself.

Instead, Doug stayed by his wife’s side, keeping her spirits lifted and being an emotional lifeline until a heart could be found (thanks, Stefan!). Doug is certainly Julie’s hero – and he’s ours, too!

General Hospital: Harrison Chase

There have been a lot of anti-heroes in Port Charles over the decades, but Det. Harrison Chase (AKA Chase, played by Josh Swickard) is a hero, period. He isn’t afraid to go up against any of GH’s deadliest baddies such as killer Ryan Chamberlin (Jon Lindstrom) and also, he sticks by his girlfriend Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) throughout her travails. There hasn’t always been confidence in the PCPD, but with Chase on the squad, we’re confident that things will be okay.

The Young and the Restless: Rey Rosales

Sometimes, heroes have to break the rules. That’s what Det. Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) did when he opted to help Sharon (Sharon Case), Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), and Victoria (Amelia Heinle), who were going off to prison for their roles in J.T.’s (Thad Luckinbill) “death.”

Rey also put family before the law after his estranged wife Mia (Noemi Gonzalez) pushed his sister Lola (Sasha Calle) into the Abbott pool. Yes, there’s the law and there’s doing what a person feels is right. Rey’s a hero because he’ll make the tough choices in life.

The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless air weekdays on CBS. Days of Our Lives airs weekdays on NBC. General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. Check local listings for air times.
