Rarely have we seen a show with SO much potential that seems to go absolutely nowhere than with General Hospital this past year.
Lost Sam…And Lost Opportunities…
The year began with so much promise as we couldn’t wait to see Drew (Billy Miller) and Jason (Steve Burton) fight for Sam (Kelly Monaco). But, they didn’t fight for Sam. At all.
Drew learned Sam still loved Jason early in the year and kissed him on New Year’s Eve, so he left. And that was it. They divorced and that was the end of that.
As for Jason, he just spent the year staring longingly at Sam letting her find herself. (Really, Sam, yourself thought you were happily married to Jason before the real Jason appeared.) He’s still staring longingly at Same because apparently she’s still lost.
Family Ties In Time
We also watched Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) stare at a watch the same way Jason looked at Sam in a story that went nowhere.

Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) gave Alexis a watch that belonged to her mother. Alexis was drawn to the watch.
Alexis looked at the watch for a few episodes spread months apart. Then, nothing. We still have no idea why the watch was even mentioned.
Where Are The Other Ones?
And remember Patient 6? That was Jason before we knew he was Jason. Well, apparently there are Patients 1-5. We even got to hear about them. Once. Just once. Only once. And Peter never mentioned them again…
