Port Charles changed forever on October 1, 1993, when Samantha McCall swept into town as a young con woman involved with Jax, but then quickly fell for Sonny. Kelly Monaco made her General Hospital debut and has been a show mainstay ever since.
While Sam has had plenty of romances (Lucky, Ric, Patrick, Silas), she is known mostly as the second half of ‘Jasam’, aka Jason and Sam.
For a while there, Sam thought the man now known as Drew Cain was Jason, so they married again and had a baby. When the real Jason returned, Sam didn’t know what to do… and still seems to not know what to do.
But that’s okay. No matter how much fans want to see her with Jason (or Drew), Sam is a woman who can hold her own due to Monaco’s feisty and honest portrayal as the vixen turned heroine.
Monaco had already “lived” in Port Charles before becoming Sam, on the GH spinoff Port Charles as Livvie Locke. Monaco was paired with Michael Easton then, which is why the show tried her out with two of his GH characters, John McBain and Silas Clay.
But those pairings never worked as for most fans it was always her pairing with Steve Burton’s Jason that kept their attention.

During her time on General Hospital, the former Baywatch Babe lifeguard also made a name for herself as the first-ever winner of Dancing With the Stars. She’s made a few return appearances on the competition show over the years, including last year.
But to daytime fans she’s just Sam, a woman who likes her jeans and black or white tops (mainly black), a leather jacket, and six-inch heels.
Soap Hub joins GH fans all over wishing Kelly Monaco a happy anniversary with the show and hope for many more years.
