The #OneChicago franchise is adding TV stalwart Steven Weber to its roaster of talent. The much beloved performer will soon be scrubbing in at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center, the setting of the drama series Chicago Med.

Chicago Med Welcomes Steven Weber

TVLine reported that Weber will be playing Dr. Dean Archer, who’s described as a “wry, blunt and talented physician who makes the move from a rural hospital to Gaffney Chicago Medical Center’s Emergency Department, where he already knows one of the docs.

“As a former Naval officer, Dr. Archer oversaw Dr. Ethan Choi (played by Brian Tee) during active duty. But with Ethan as the newly instated chief of the ED, Dr. Archer finds himself struggling to be second-in-command.” Weber will make his debut in an episode scheduled to air in early March.

Weber’s appointment will be a reunion of sorts between the actor and the Peacock network, as he’s, of course, best known for playing airport operator Brian Hackett on the NBC sitcom Wings. That show aired from April 19, 1990, to May 21, 1997. Weber also starred on the 2020 comedy series Indebted alongside Fran Drescher, Adam Pally, and Abby Elliot.

The actor’s extensive resume includes features such as The Flamingo Kid (1984), Hamburger Hill (1987), and The Temp (1993), as well as TV episodes of Tales from the Crypt, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Mindy Project, Community, Sleepy Hollow, and How to Get Away with Murder.

Weber has also had recurring roles on several primetime series including Once & Again, iZombie, NCIS: New Orleans, Ballers, Get Shorty, and Mom where he played Bonnie Plunkett’s brother-in-law, Patrick Janikowski.

To fans of daytime soap operas, Weber is well known for his work on As the World Turns (he also appeared on Guiding Light). On the former, he played Kevin Gibson opposite Julianne Moore’s Frannie Hughes and it was during his tenure there that he met his first wife, Finn Carter (ex-Sierra Estaban)

Chicago Med airs on Wednesday nights on NBC alongside sister series Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. Check your local listings for airtimes.
