Elizabeth Hurley and Hugh Grant’s romance spanned over a decade and had everything you could want in a celebrity relationship — scandals, incredible red carpet moments, and so much more.
While ultimately they weren’t meant to be, these two have found a way to stay close no matter what. From how the couple met to their eventual split, find out more about this once great celebrity romance.
How Did Elizabeth Hurley and Hugh Grant Meet?
The two met on the set of the Spanish film Rowing in the Wind (Remando al viento) in 1987. This was Hurley’s first feature film role and the pair started dating during the filming process.
Shocking Scandal
After about eight years together, Grant was arrested on June 27, 1995, after he was caught receiving oral sex in a public place from a prostitute named Divine Brown. Grant was fined $1,180 and was placed on two years probation, but the whole ordeal was clearly embarrassing. However, despite that, Hurley stood by his side and even went with him to the premiere of his movie, Nine Months, just weeks later.
Parting Ways
The two stars called it quits in May of 2000 after 13 years together. While it was said to be a temporary split at the time, the couple never reconciled romantically.
Her Son’s Godfather
Shortly after splitting from Grant, Hurley became pregnant with her first child and welcomed son Damian in April 2002 with businessman Steve Bing, whom she dated after Grant. However, despite their split, Hurley asked Grant to be Damien’s godfather.
The Best of Friends
Grant and Hurley are still very close and are each other’s best friends even after being romantic partners for over a decade. Hurley has shared photos with Grant to Instagram over the years and Grant referred to her as his “absolute best friend” on an episode of Watch What Happens Live.
