We usually spot soap alums on primetime shows. But last night, while watching ABC’s The Rookie, we spotted a couple of actors who currently star on daytime TV. The Bold and the Beautiful’s Lisa Yamada and General Hospital’s Carlo Rota guest starred in a big episode of the hit cop drama.
From Daytime to Primetime
Lisa Yamada
B&B’s Lisa Yamada appeared at the very beginning of The Rookie. She played the girlfriend of a guy who found a romantic and, frankly, illegal way of asking his girl to marry him. He painted a street mural for her. The cops called what he did vandalism.
When Yamada’s character pulled her car over to the side of the road and saw Tim Bradford (Days of Our Lives alum Eric Winter) and rookie cop Miles Penn (Deric Augustine) arresting her boyfriend, she ran over. The persistent artist, who was handcuffed, asked the cops to film the moment he asked Yamada’s character to marry him. And they did.
The girlfriend was very understanding, however. She said yes as her now fiancé was hauled off to the police precinct.
Yamada currently stars on B&B as Luna Nozawa, the disturbed daughter of Poppy (Roma Park) and, as fans just learned, Dr. John Finnegan. Finn (Tanner Novlan) learning the truth has freaked him out. Meanwhile, Luna, the double murderer, is living at Bill’s (Don Diamont) mansion under house arrest, complete with an ankle monitor.
Nobody but Bill knows about this situation. And Luna has no idea that Finn, her beloved adopted cousin, is really her biological father.

Carlo Rota
GH’s Carlo Rota guest starred on The Rookie in an entirely different storyline from Yamada. Obviously, he played the bad guy of the episode, as he often does. Rota was the main person of interest in the case of a poor father’s missing daughter.
Rota’s character, Anton Petrovich, seemed dangerous and, more importantly, untouchable. However, in the end, the frantic father and the cops caught up with the ex-enforcer of a Russian foreign military intelligence agency. And he went down.
Rota’s character had an accent and was featured in scenes with Nathan Fillion’s Officer John Nolan and Lisseth Chavez’s Celina Juarez.
On GH, Rota plays the dangerous Jenz Sidwell, a guy similar to his Rookie character. Apparently, he operated in lawless territory in Africa, so his record remains clean. Recently, the warlord moved to Port Charles and lives at Wyndemere on Spoon Island. Sidwell walks amongst people he tried to kill. But he doesn’t care.
The Rookie airs Tuesday nights on ABC at 10/9c. It also streams on Hulu, where you can catch Yamada and Rota in the season 7 episode called “The Gala.”
