Fans are still mourning the loss of Captain Bobby Nash on ABC’s 911, over a year after the character tragically died in action. But now Peter Krause, who played the fearless firefighter, is returning to TV in an NBC procedural where he no longer fights fires. Instead, he fights the worst of the worst as Secret Service Agent Mike Hollingsworth in the upcoming fall drama, Line of Fire. At the heart of the show is a family that often conflicts with one another, both personally and professionally. In a recent panel discussion, Krause referred to a late, great soap opera to describe his TV family’s dysfunctional dynamic.

Key Takeaways

Line of Fire is an upcoming NBC drama that focuses on a family of law enforcement agents. They take on cases for the FBI, US Marshals, Secret Service, and Department of Justice. Their high-stakes jobs require them to protect civilians, politicians, and sometimes each other.

With big responsibilities also come big conflicts with their coworkers, Washington, D.C.’s upper echelon, and, oftentimes, each other. All of this to say that the Hollingsworth family takes dysfunction and drama to a whole new level. In addition to Krause, the show stars Hope Davis, Kat Cunning, Tommy O’Brien, Taylor Bloom, and Charlie Barnett.

Krause’s character is the patriarch of a family of overachievers. One second, the Hollingsworths are experiencing heroic highs in their respective professions. Next, they deal in secrets, lies, and betrayals, and that’s just within the confines of the family. “They’re a family that goes through what any family goes through in terms of their interpersonal conflicts,” he explained.

Interestingly enough, Krause, who’s also known for other high-profile TV series like Parenthood, Six Feet Under, and Sports Night, drew on an NBC soap opera to help describe the familial dynamics on Line of Fire. “When I was a kid, my mother watched Another World, and she’d fold the laundry,” he revealed.

“I would help her sometimes, and I would ask, ‘Why is Rachel [Victoria Wyndham] mad at Mac [Douglass Watson]?’ You want to see what’s going to happen between these two people because they’re kind of on the outs, yet they’re really in love with each other.

The same thing with the kids. We [Krause and Davis play a separated husband and wife] have a kid who may or may not be having an affair with the president’s daughter,” the Dirty Sexy Money actor continued. “There are all these other things that go on besides the procedural elements.”

Fun Fact: Jenna Bush Hager of The Today Show is an executive producer on Line of Fire, which debuts on NBC Monday, September 21, 2026, at 10 p.m. ET/PT. And it streams the next day on Peacock.
